Distance learning: Principles of Protein Structure (PPS)

Postgraduate Certificate Syllabus

PPS Syllabus

Section 12 - Structural Molecular Immunology

This section is different from any of the previous sections in the course: it deals with the structures of proteins in a particular functional class. Through studying the proteins of the immune system you will learn in more detail how the functions, and mechanisms, of proteins can be determined by their structure.

  • 12.1 Introduction to the Immune System
  • 12.2 Immunoglobulins and the Immunoglobulin Fold
  • 12.3 MHC Class I and Class II Molecules
  • 12.4 Differences between the Class I and Class II active sites
  • 12.5 The Adaptive Cellular Immune Response
  • 12.6 The CD4 and CD8 Receptors
  • 12.7 Immunoinformatics

Modelling Antibody Structures

Predicting antigenic sites

  • 12.8 References
