The School of Crystallography

Postgraduate Diploma in e-Science

Information for Prospective Students

Introduction

The Postgraduate Diploma is a new course being offered by the School of Crystallography offering an introduction to modern computing methods for scientists.

The course has been developed to meet the changing needs for computing and internet skills. It has developed out of our interest in computer skills for scientists, especially those in structural biology, bioinformatics and meterials science. However, we have broadened the scope and it is intended for those in all areas of science.

The advent of the Internet has revolutionised the way in which scientific information can be accessed and explored. At the same time an information explosion is taking place in science which has meant that new computational techniques are required for information storage, organisation and analysis. These new techniques constitute E-Science and this Postgraduate Diploma introduces the skills necessary for understanding this informatics revolution.
