I recently bought a QuickCam camera for my Mac. It could be used for
videoconferencing with the CU-SeeMe (See you - See me) program from cornell
univerity for Mac and PC.
It could be useful to incorporate this technology (oops should this have
gone to PPS-Technology ?) in the course. In the most recent version you can
even open a different window with some high resolution picture in it in
which you could point out things. Like teaching a class !?
You don't have to have a camera yourself, you can just watch others work !
It requires a somewhat fast net connection especially for audio (talk to
and see each other !) but I'm using a 28k8 modem and this goes amazingly
well.
You can connect one to one to have a private conversation (VideoPhone) or
you could connect to a so called reflector to which more people can
connect.

This is a reflector in Finland which seems quite enough to experiment with.

the CU-SeeMe program can be obtained from
ftp://gated.cornell.edu/pub/video/
be sure also to get the Talk and AD program. This will let you talk
directly to someone appart from typing under your picture (if you have
one). Drop these plugins in the CUSeeme program folder and get the
nicknames file for the Preferences folder in the System folder. (Sorry
don't know about PC's)
