RESULTS OF QUESTIONNAIRE - APRIL 1995 MANY THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO FILL IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE - THIS IS OF GREAT VALUE TO US! The results of the the survey are under the course index page and so I shan't comment on every detail. Some general points are: We are delighted that 72 people are clearly actively following the course in some way. This, in itself, is a great tribute to yourselves and I hope that you feel part of something that has clearly been highly worthwhile. What you may not realise is that we have received several word-of-mouth rports showing that there is great interest in the course beyond its present membership. Though it's impossible to tell, I suspect that there is 'silent' readership several times larger than this number. We are also very pleased that so many of you have been able to learn and use the technology. Remember that when we started, both RasMol and MAGE had never been used in this way before, and that we had little idea of how BioMOO and the mailing lists would work. The course is voluntary, and I'm sure many of you have found that you have other more pressing calls on your time. We take great heart from the number that are following, and believe that this shows that it will be possible to run a greater variety of courses, including ones with accreditation and assessment, and, later, we'd like your suggestions here. We've taken your reports of problems very seriously. Some, of course, like network lag we can't tackle, and others (like hypertext navigation) may be mainly a questions of becoming familiar. The area where we can probably do most is in promoting more group activity (though this depends mainly on yourselves!). We'll address this in the mailing lists, but any suggestions you have will be valuable. I suspect that we should form a smaller number of groups in BioMOO - perhaps in the more 'inhabitated' rooms. I expect that some of you are on holiday at this time so that activity may appear to slow down a bit, but Alan and colleagues have come up up with some really beautiful material and we are really at the heart of what protein structure is about.
