This is a FAQ and should perhaps be documented somewhere in the technical
section of the course (hint, hint).
Unfortunately, there is no straightforward way to save inlined gifs to your
disk, but:
Most viewers will allow you to look at the source HTML. Otherwise look at the
saved file. You will easily find the gif files (partial) URL.
Example:
The top of the document
http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PPS/course/3_geometry/peptide1.html
looks like this:
Acid or base hydrolysis of proteins yields amino acids of this general form. The central carbon atom is called the Calpha-atom and is a chiral centre. All amino acids found in proteins encoded by the genome have the L-configuration at this chiral centre. This configuration can be remembered as the CORN law. Imagine looking along the H-Calpha bond with H atom closest to you.
You should be looking for the IMG SRC tags and prepend them with the parent documents path (here http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PPS/course/3_geometry/ ) for loading (and saving). I would assume that the course material does not disappear very fast from the server, so that you could for the most part save yourself the trouble of cluttering your disk with html files. Just save a bookmark and reload later.
