Hi-

I routinely use PPP for the Mac from home, it works like a treat.

I'll give the bare-bones here so everyone can get at it; then we can
enter a private dialog if you feel the need. This is from memory, and
pretty sketchy, but really it's like anything else- once you have done
it once, it is easy!

Get MacTCP 2.0.x (2.0.6 is current, I believe).
Get MacPPP (I think 2.0 is current, can't swear).
Put them both in your control panels folder and restart.

(I'm working from memory- there may be errors here:)
-Set up MacTCP to obtain address from server, and choose the MacPPP driver.
-Bring up MacPPP and click the "Use terminal" box (I may have the name
fuzzy).
-Click in the "Open" button. You should get a terminal window.
-Connect manually with your server (AT commands and all that). Write
down every prompt and response. Carefully.
-After authentication, type ppp (return)
-Click the button on the terminal window that says "connect" or
something similar.
-You should get a status window that shows you the progress of
bringing the connection up, then goes away. You should see happy
telephones on the MacPPP window and the words "PPP up" or something
like that.
-Use your TCP/IP programs- NCSA Telnet 2.6, Fetch 2.1.1, Newswatcher
2.0b21, and Netscape 1.0N are all free and excellent.
-If everything is cool, define a PPP server and connection script
using the info you wrote down before, and test it.
-In future, MacPPP will automatically open a connection whenever a
program requests one of MacTCP. Way cool.

Hope this helps-

Ethan
