Serving PDB files from Birkbeck

Dear Friends,

I have today put in a link between our Birkbeck copy of the Brookhaven
Protein Data Bank (dated June 1994) and our server's directory area.
In consequence it should now be possible for any of you to download
structure files directly from Birkbeck into your client, or include pdb files
in your Web documents.

If you are configured for chemical/MIME invocation of RasMol, as we
have suggested to you all from the beginning, then you can load any structure
into a client viewer either from YOUR html document, OR into your own system
by `Opening' a URL of the following form

http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PDB/pdb4cms.pdb

Note that the four-letter PDB code in lower-case alpha-numerics is preceded by
http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PDB/pdb and followed by the extension .pdb

Please also note that our version of the PDB is not bang up to date, so
there will be a few codes that aren't included in it.

I would welcome any feedback about this facility.

Best Regards,

Alan Mills at Birkbeck, for vsns-pps,
