BioMOO: meeting times

On times of meetings in the MOO:

I anticipate that we may run into some problems with the times
of meetings at the MOO:

1) Because of different time-zones

An 8am meeting for one may be a 3am meeting for another.
Perhaps meeting group sections should be time-zone compatible?

(The downside on this is the creation of geographical boundaries
between us which would seem to defeat part of the course's
philosophy ... but we also have to balance practicality)

One work-around which I resorted to at a meeting at ECCC-1
(the electronic computational chemistry conference in Fall '94)
was to have a virtual meeting in two parts with the transcript
from the first half of the meeting posted to the discussion list before
the second part commenced.

2) Because of differing work schedules

Some of us will fit in the course as part of a regular work day
whereas others will primarily be able to participate at times at the
beginning or end of the workday.

3) Because of Net traffic

I into BioMOO on Friday from the U.K. around midday
(ca. 1 pm GMT) and the response was rather slow. I think we
might have to avoid certain times (e.g., the European afternoon)
when interactivity will be poor because of slow response times.
Certainly if one is trying to learn a little about the MOO and
look at help sheets etc. it pays to login at off-peak hours.

Just some thoughts.

I love the Web interface that is being developed!
