This is a very rough idea of how we intend to proceed. Obviously
it depends on how many consultants join us and how much material they
I am adding comments to this as we progress - so you can see how well
we predicted things - or not!
Please let me know if any of this isn't possible. After we advertise,
all hell will break loose, so technology needs to be ready!.
- October 3:
Consultants read material at dl.ac.uk carefully and comment.
Consultants think about what services they can most easily offer.
Consultants think about curriculum.
This has gone fine
- October 10:
Course advertised on bionet and NCSA What's New.
Actually advertised on Oct20 on BIONET. Sent to NCSA but they
seem to be 2 weeks behind :-)
Advert solicits further consultants, and any student-consultants.
VERY pleased with response! But please keep offering help!!
MOO ready to accept influx of tourists. ?Classroom prepared?
Classroom ready. Haven't formally starting registering in MOO
RasMol, Kinemage should have own Web pages with clear instructions.
Volunteers, please! :-)
Communal discussion of curriculum and partitioning of material, tasks starts.
Starting to work fine (Nov 3)
- October 17:
Secondary consultants join and start implementing their material or resources.
This is going well.
Preparation for registration must be complete by now.
OOF! Registration technology is being actively developed
Glossary construction can start as an ongoing process.
No offers for glossary yet...
- October 24:
More of the same!
Consultants with real-life students should start installing technology,
We have RL students at BBK. Any others (in consultant labs?)
- October 31:
Student registration starts.
Optimistic. Needs BBK server to be running - perhaps 2-3 weeks
Registration (AM + PMR). Some students will become student-consultants and
start preparing material.
SUGGEST YOU ADD ABOUT 3 WEEKS TO REST OF TIMETABLE
Students start installing technology. Technical consultants must be ready
to help advise and debug.
The structure of the Principles strand should be clear by now
Consultants should continuously:
Consultants could start posting ideas for students:
- Add new questions to tests
- Add end-of-chapter objectives to chapters/modules.
- to write short hyperarticles on specific proteins
- to do as projects
- to create as resources (clickable maps, diagrams, etc).
More of the same.
The first half of the course must be in good shape by now.
Consultants agree MOO schedule
AM + PMR put a monitoring scheme in place for general student progress.
Listserv starts for student contributions.
Initial student meetings in MOO for practice at MOO'ing..
- January 95
Off we go!
Consultants must be active in MOO, on listservs, etc.
The end of 'Part one' should come somewhere here.
The 'families' begin now,
as (probably) do projects and assignments (if any).
Course finishes at end of month. Student wins Nobel Prize for
new theory of protein structure based on QCD.
