We summarize here the current understanding about Integrase Proteins.
Integrase proteins are a family of endonuclease involved in the retroviral
infection.
The genome structure and the life cycle of retroviruses are described.
Integrase proteins are described with respect to the following issues: the
integration mechanism, the sequence, the three dimensional structure and
the therapeutical implications.
Analogies between integrases and other proteins are reported with emphasis
about the conserved regions.
Phylogenetic trees are also reported.
