Sequence-wise, this polypeptide is very typical for homeodomain proteins. In fact, out of the sixty amino acids in the domain, only nine amino acids are different in the Antennapedia homeodomain. In the major recognition helix (helix III/IV), only one amino acid is deviant and even in that position Antennapedia contains the second most common amino acid. That is one of a few positions that have a high frequency secondary amino acid in the consensus sequence.
