Ending your session (already!)

This is as good a time as any to explain how end your session in case you're caught short, and also to explain how to get back in next time.


To exit Mosaic and Netscape

Don't do this until you've read this whole page (!!) : Click on File on the menu bar, then click on the Exit option.


To get back in next time

Windows/Mac

This is the procedure for Windows and Mac users to start Mosaic or Netscape and then to get into this Internet tutorial.

  1. In the Windows environment, double-click on the Mosaic or Netscape icon using the mouse
  2. Resize the newly opened application window if you wish
  3. Click on the File option on the menu bar which produces a dropdown menu
  4. Within this new options box, click in the rectangular area to the right of the colon-punctuated URL: (or Location: in Netscape). This will make a flashing cursor bar appear
  5. Enter the following text (all the bold text) into the box: http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PPS2/course/section1/internet/Overview.html
  6. Now press the OK button
  7. You will then get to the Internet Tutorial overview hypertext link (the 'top' link of the tutorial)

UNIX

This is the procedure for UNIX users to start Mosaic or Netscape and then to get into this Internet tutorial.

  1. In an existing or a new xterm type in:
  2. Resize the newly opened application window if you wish
  3. Click on the File option on the menu bar which produces a dropdown menu
  4. Within this new options box, click in the rectangular area to the right of the colon-punctuated URL: (or Location: in Netscape). This will make a flashing cursor bar appear
  5. Enter the following text (all the bold text) into the box: http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/PPS2/course/section1/internet/Overview.html
  6. Now press the OK button
  7. You will then get to the Internet Tutorial overview hypertext link (the 'top' link of the tutorial)

If you want to print a hardcopy of this procedure, which you can then refer to at will, then do the following (this works for both Mosaic and Netscape):

  1. Click on File on the menu bar
  2. Click on Print and press OK
