Email/IMAP server slow response and timeouts
We have recently been experiencing problems with the email server responding slowly and timing out.
This is caused by a general increased workload but also by the exceedingly aggressing behaviour of a very small number of Microsoft email clients.
These clients account for less then 10% of our users a day. However unless configured correctly the software has the potential to cause a serious disruption of the email service.
If you must use Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Entourage please make the configuration changes shown on http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/CCSG/email/Microsoft_clients.html
The Computer support Group are also setting up on bringing a new faster email server.
