How do I configure webmail to filter out spam?

1. Log in to webmail.

2. Click on the "Options" icon at the top of the page.

3. Click on "Filters" under "Mail Management" in the middle column of the page.

4. Tick the boxes marked "Apply filter rules upon logging on?" and "Apply filter rules when mailbox is refreshed?".

5. Click on "Edit your filter rules".

6. Tick the "Subject" box, enter "{Spam?}" (without quotes) in the "Text" box and then click the "Create" button.

7. Click the "Apply All Rules" button.

Any messages tagged as spam (i.e. that have {Spam?} in the subject line) will now get automatically deleted.

Why can't I see my mail with the Unix mail command?

The UNIX mail command and netscape assume that your incoming mail in stored in the local mail spool area. On the UNIX cluster all incoming mail is only accessible from the mail server system. To access your incoming mail you have to use pine or another imap compatible email client.

Is there a POP server?

The School only provides IMAP support there is no POP server. Most modern email clients support IMAP.
